Q: How do I make a reservation?
A: We require a one-night deposit per room for the confirmation. You may make a payment online through PayPal, or fill out the reservation form with a major credit card and email it to us. You may fax your reservation to 416 496-1357. Or you may call us at 416 975-3838. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express or JCB.
If you wish to send a money order, a certified cheque, or a travelers' cheque, we have to receive it 26 days prior to your stay. A regular personal cheque takes even longer time to clearn – about 40 days.
A deposit of 50% of the total is required for group bookings, or longer stay special deals.
We require a minimum 2-night stay in high season, or during special events.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: In the event of a cancellation, the deposit less a $15 handling fee will be refunded if notice is given 10 days prior to the guests' scheduled arrival date, or 30 days for major events. There is a one-night charge for short notice. If you have to give short notice for postponing your stay to a later date, there is no charge, but you forfeit your privilege of canceling a room without this one-night penalty. No refund is granted to a “no show” or early departure unless the room is re-rented.
Q: What are the accommodation taxes in Ontario ?
A: The provincial government collects a 5% Provincial Sales Tax (PST); the federal government collects a 6% Goods and Services Tax (GST), which can be reclaimed by foreign visitors upon leaving Canada.
Q: We have not seen your charge on our statement. Do you still have our reservation?
A: Don't worry. If we do not process the one-night deposit charge, you can pay the full amount of your stay upon arrival. To confirm your reservation, we may verify the credit card’s good standing.
Q: When the total amount is due?
A: The total amount or the remaining balance is due upon arrival.
Q: When do you offer discounts on room rates?
A: In the winter off-season we offer discounted rates. We also offer discounted rates for longer stays.
Q: Do you offer gift certificates?
A: Yes, we do.
Q: What is the check-in and check-out time?
A: Our check-in time is after 2 p.m.; check-out time is before 11 am. However, you may come in earlier to drop off your luggage. If your arrival is going to be delayed beyond 11 pm, please advise us, if possible.
Q: Is there a curfew?
A: No. There isn’t. But you have to be quiet when you come in at night since other guests are resting.
Q: Do you always have people waiting for us?
A: Yes, we do. Press the doorbell by the entrance upon your arrival. If no one answers the door, do not panic because the battery-operated doorbell fails to function properly sometimes, or the concierge may have left the reception desk briefly. Just call Mike at 416-975-3838.
Q: Is there parking?
A: Yes, there is. There is a space for off-street parking next to Ambassador Inn. We have space for two cars. We also have an open lot behind Jarvis House for both Jarvis House and Ambassador Inn guests. Parking is free, on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Underground parking is sometimes available in a hotel nearby. Guests have to check with the hotel for space availability and current fees.
Like all other accommodations in Toronto, we are not responsible for any damage or lost items when you use our parking lot or other’s parking lot.
Q: Is there a phone?
A: Ambassador Inn has a phone with voice mailbox in each guestroom. Jarvis House has a Bell Canada payphone on the main floor near the back exit. When people need to contact you at Jarvis House, they can reach you through us by calling 416-975-0159.
Q: What kind of neighborhood are you in? Is your area safe for visitors?
A: Our neighborhood is mainly residential mixed with a few quality hotels. Our area is as safe as anywhere else in Toronto, one of the safest cities in the world. We established our first B&B here in 1995, and have never had any safety-related issues.
Q: We are looking for a guy-friendly Bed and breakfast. Are you guy-friendly?
A: Like all other nice and friendly hosts running bed and breakfast in Toronto, we are nice and friendly to everyone.
Q: Are there rules against smoking in your house?
A: Our insurance policy does not allow smoking indoors. Smokers who ignore our non-smoking rules, and smoke in room will be asked to leave early and be responsible for vacant nights if a room cannot be re-rented due to residue.
Q: Do you allow pets?
A: Yes, if it is a goldfish. But no, if it has fur. We are allergic to animal hair.
